Goldmoor Inn

We were traveling to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary, so before our trip I contacted the hotel to ask if they could arrange something special for us. I was happy to pay extra, but I never heard back. When we arrived, I brought it up again at the front desk, but the receptionist didn't seem to be having a good day and wasn't very helpful. For a special occasion, we hoped for more attention and better communication. The room itself was lovely, but better responsiveness from the staff and a quick fix for the jacuzzi would make a big difference for future guests.

Our worst experience was The Edge restaurant. Very overpriced and disappointing for what is marketed as a high-end dining experience. We had a 7:30 reservation, but our food did not arrive until about 25 minutes before the restaurant closed. Our waiter apologized several times for the delay, but by the time we finally received our meal, staff were already watching the tables and we felt rushed to finish. The food itself was also subpar. We both ordered the Beef Wellington, one of the most expensive dishes on the menu, and both steaks were undercooked. Normally we would have sent them back, but after waiting so long and receiving our food so close to closing, we didn’t feel we had time. The asparagus served with it was so tough it was almost inedible. Our reservation also included a seating request that was completely ignored, even though the seats we requested remained vacant. Instead, we were placed in a dining room with cheap, generic hotel-style decor that felt completely out of place for a restaurant charging these prices.

I was hesitant about spending as much but it was worth it to have such an exceptional stay.

This was a bit more than we typically spend for accommodations, but it was so worth every penny, there was not one thing I would have changed about our room (we stayed in the first lady suite) the owner was present and very accommodating and you could tell the employees really enjoyed their job...it was all smiles and good attitudes! Galena is a fun little getaway! We will go back!

Absolute amazing weekend with my husband away from everything to celebrate our anniversary. The staff was amazing, so friendly. The room was beautiful, the view was amazing, the food was to die for at the restaurant downstairs. Could not have asked for a better place to enjoy with my husband. Will definitely be back!!

The Irish Cottage was beautifully updated. Nice view of the horse ranch below the balcony. Very quiet secluded area. Breakfast served each morning to room was delicious!

Everything about it was superlative. The best restaurant we've ever eaten in a resort/hotel and a tasty breakfast delivered to your room. Polite, unobtrusive staff and the forest setting overlooking the Mississippi makes this the best place to stay in the Galena area. While we like children and the Goldmoor is for adults, the quiet, peaceful mornings made it the perfect place to recuperate after a difficult week. Will definitely return. Shower and jacuzzi could use some strips for better footing (slippery). This is a very minor complaint, but could be a hazard, especially for senior visitors.

The rum was excellent, the staff was excellent and the menu and meal we had at the restaurant was one of the top 10 ever.

Property was beautiful There was not adequate parking. We had to walk through the dining room restaurant and kitchen to get to our room. We also had a few stairs (and no assistance) to haul luggage to get to our room. Apparently the restaurant has delicious dinner; however, it was booked. It would have been nice to have been informed at the time of reservation to hotel to make dinner reservations as well.

Other than that, I had an absolutely fabulous stay. The fireplace in the room was my favorite feature. Bed and bedding were like sleeping on a cloud. Book a suite with river view if possible. The view is quite wonderful! I saw the inn keeper every day. He’s very friendly, talks to everyone, and truly wants you to have a wonderful stay. I highly recommend dinner at least once at the restaurant there. The food is exquisite! Keep in mind that lunch and snacks aren’t offered. Bring things from home, there’s a fridge and microwave in every room.

We loved the fireplace. Especially with October chill. We also loved the spacious room.
