Wyndham Garden Ankeny/Des Moines

We stayed here 11 months to the weekend before this trip and it was a wonderful experience. This trip was the complete opposite. There was a family running the hotel that was always present in the lobby when I took my dog out. Every singe time I walked through the lobby, at least one of them would cringe and recoil because I had a dog. Anytime I walked through on my own, they were friendly. He stayed with us the last time we did, and the last person running the front desk loved him, and there was no family lurking around making everyone uncomfortable. The room was comfortable, but barely held together. One of the lamps was suspended from the ceiling not very safely with a board over the cord to hold it in place. It also emitted enough heat to tan under, so we worried about even using it. In one of the rooms as you enter the pool, there's a torn up box spring blocking the doorway. The storage rooms are all full of junk and garbage and they keep all of the doors open so it just spills out into the hallway sometimes. We also asked for a poolside room like we had last time for the kids, and we were put on the second floor. As we were checking out, we were loading the car in front of the lobby, and the guy working the front desk stood in the automatic doorway and just mean mugged us, like we were criminals. Will not be staying here again.

It has been partially renovated. Staff was friendly & clean lobby. Rooms were ok, with the exception of long, dark hair scattered around. Free breakfast at the attached diner. Dirty, dingy, & dark hallways with damaged paint & stained carpet. Maybe they are the last to get upgraded? Hallway was busy & loud until after midnight not to mention the traffic noise.

Very pleased by the amenities in the room. Breakfast was great especially connected to the onsite restaurant

Loved the blue theme. Cool and lady at desk was amazing as well

The room we got was great. The building/property itself could use some work. Doesn't seem the cleanest, but for the price, it is what it is.

Customer service wasn’t great. We had to wait on towels daily. They couldn’t keep towels clean for some reason.

It was on and behind the chair, on the bed frame, headboard, floors, walls, and inside the AC unit. The shower had a crappy drop ceiling filled with water and mold. My sheets were never changed, room never cleaned

We dropped something behind the dresser and when we pulled it out, it was really dirty. The wall of the show had dark spots in the grout -- thinking it might be mold. The person who was at the desk when we got there charged our credit card $101.00, even though we had paid through Hotels.com. The beds were good and the breakfast was delicious - getting to eat at the Ankeny Diner for the breakfast was great.

not one thing the manager is a joke doesn’t take in to consideration of his housekeeping not cleaning the rooms correctly (coming from a housekeeper) switched me to 3 different rooms all dirty then refused to give me a refund because my 6 year old was in the pool for the first 20 minutes we were there (water was to cold for the rest of us) said since we used the pool right when we checked in that he couldn’t give a refund for the crappy hotel he’s running everything

That the bar didn't open tell 4 but there was a gas station close by to get drinks

Back window was dirty and full of debris. Front window faces the indoor pool. A new toilet was installed but it interferes with the bathroom door, which will only open 45 degrees! Bathroom counter was drilled for a 3 hole fixture but only a 1 hole fixture was installed. The soap dish hides the holes! Very classy - NOT!!! Also way overpriced. A general disappointment. Never going back.

pillows were comfortable Bed was NOT clean, found stains and hair that was not mine in the bed before getting in. Had to get all new sheets just to feel ok sleeping in the bed. The hotel halls are not clean and other guests were VERY loud the entire night.

The breakfast was decent. The room was filthy, the floor was sticky and black in the corners. The smell was horrible and I had to go buy air freshener to aid in masking the smell. I also had to go buy toilet paper as the front desk didn't answer when u called.
