We should have been told the property was under construction, no nice amenities for the price.

The staff and the hotel are great - but there is a lot of construction - and the pricing was outrageous for the festival (1200 to 1500 per night) - even though much of the hotel was blocked off and construction ongoing. That said, there was still a pool open (and it was great) as well as some great restaurants - but I do think they should have offered much cheaper rates during construction as you could still hear it during the day, so it wasnt quite as relaxing. Looking forward to when it is all finished.

We spent $1800 for 3 nights yes $600 a night for peek a boo ocean view no balcony basic room that desperately needed updating! What we did get was a great view of major on going construction with hammering at 6am on a SATURDAY morning! The staff was accommodating and we had to move rooms twice. Once because the bathroom wasn’t cleaned and the second time for ongoing construction noise. The hotel gave us a VERY VAGUE message about the “lobby updating” a couple days before arrival. What they DID NOT say was it’s MAJOR construction. This was our 12th wedding anniversary and it’s the hotel we stayed at when we got married so we wanted to stay at the same hotel and it was a major mistake! DO NOT stay at this hotel for at least a year until the construction is complete. You can probably see the construction on google earth and see exactly what I’m talking about! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED !!!

Construction that had not been made obvious on the website. Unsightly and no preparation nor lowered room costs as a result.

At least...when client don't have access to the full resort...don't charge crazy resort fee and parking Location is great...just 5 min walking from doheny state park nice room...but no seal under the door...you hear everything in the hallway DON'T pay for partial ocean view...you have to be on the corner of the balcony ...stretching your neck to see ocean....disappointing Nice staff, good location....mixed feeling

MASSIVE CONSTRUCTION TIL JAN 2027! They did not disclose the construction upon booking. Painting inside and out. Jackhammering outside, tearing stuff down. Paint smell is so strong! Don’t stay unless you’re willing to have to endure construction early in the morning, chemical paint smells and long walks to a room with a construction view.

The extent of renovation activities was significantly miscommunicated. It was unfortunate to see so much construction underway and it impacted our stay.

I spoke to the hotel front desk 2 times asking that we do not overlook the construction and we want an ocean view…called the day before and they assured me. It was for my son and new bride so I wanted it nice. They got construction and no ocean view.

advertised partial ocean view was blocked by palm trees

That's the bad news. The good news is that the Director of Rooms gave us a full refund, through Expedia, with very little negotiating. I should also note that, when I checked out, the lobby was full of disgruntled guests also demanding refunds. The bottom line is that the hotel owner should have stepped up and simply closed the hotel until the construction project was finished, allegedly in late January, 2027.

Major construction going on and adult pool was closed. Landscaping by the rooms seems to have all been let go and not being watered due to the construction.
-
Location comfortable reasonable price spacious room.
-
The site is a construction site. The view which was supposed to be an ocean view was of the construction view. And trees. There was nothing I can say was good

It was an amazing stay! There is construction, but on the side we stayed on we heard nothing.
-
Too much construction going on.

With this location and natural beauty of this cliff in Dana Point, this could potentially be a great hotel/resort. However the Laguna Cliffs Marriott is barely a Marriott. Old building, passable rooms, below par cleanliness and staff were unhelpful at best. Sorry to break the news, this establishment cannot be a Marriott: 1. In room dining ends at 10pm, 2. Many rooms overlook a street, nothing pretty to see there + the noise 3. Small fridge, no microwave 4. Balcony furniture is plastic, not even decent wood. 5. The main lawn is closed to landscaping & revamping 6. Hidden & Extra resort fees / taxes amounting to the rate of almost 2 extra nights in top of what was prepaid with Expedia 7. They are pretending they are changing some landscaping to turn into a “JW Marriott” but the rooms and services would probably need a major upgrade as well. // only positive shoutout is to their breakfast buffet staff who were professional and courteous. However; I’m Very unfortunate to have stayed at that resort and would not return unless the major issues above are deeply addressed & resolved as per other future reviews
