Laguna Surf Lodge by SCP Hotels

I had a great time at the Laguna Surf Lodge. The staff at the hotel were friendly and accommodating. Our room was clean and ready for us upon arrival. I had a great time and definitely would recommend staying there when in Laguna and I look forward to coming back.

Rented a room with a furnished balcony. When we checked in they gave us a room with NO balcony. Staff said there was nothing they can do since they were fully booked. Staff was otherwise very helpful. Room was spacious and had all the things we needed. They do have a seating area above the beach. We utilized that every morning and every night we were there. Just beware of the room descriptions when booking.

The property is very run down and poorly maintained. We left without staying the night because our room was dirty, lacked a single tv (in a 2 Br suite), and the fixtures were old and in disrepair. The location is beautiful and the staff is young and relaxed and nice. However, nothing can transcend the old structure, peeling paint, dirty windows, unsafe conditions, and general level of disrepair. One of our two suites lacked any formal door - we entered and exited through an old aluminum sliding door. We did not feel safe. I would’ve demanded a refund but I just wanted out of there so we evacuated and paid for three rooms at another hotel. Just awful.

Location can’t be beat. Fun funky little hotel. Love all the nooks w seats and ocean views. Room decor very fun. Loved all the plants on property. Exterior couple use a solid once over.

Staff was friendly. The only reason I chose to stay here was for the location, and that's really all this place has going for it based on the price we paid. Cleanliness and room amenities were super basic for the price. Room was super basic and only decently clean. They did accommodate us for an early check-in but I wouldn't assume that would compromise the cleanliness of the room. Sand was all over the rug at the foot of our bed, the sink had some grime in it and there was a piece of dried food on the floor.

Beautiful view of the water and sunsets from our room. Room was small but very comfortable. Easy walk to shops and restaurants. Would definitely stay again!

This was our fourth stay, and as always, we had a great time. We usually stay longer, and this has become our yearly getaway because we enjoy it so much and it’s always worth the trip. My only complaint this time was that the room became quite hot even with the AC on. Maybe adding some type of heat-blocking film to the windows would help. We still had a wonderful stay and look forward to coming back again. My main issue with the room was how warm it got, even when the air conditioning was on. It seemed like quite a bit of heat was coming through the windows. A heat-blocking window film or another window treatment might make a big difference. We stayed in 402

Beautiful hotel right on the ocean. Get the room with the balcony view. You won't regret it. There there was no noise from the highway and great restaurants steps from the hotel. I loved waking up hearing the ocean. The staff was kind and friendly. Don't miss out on the fire pits overlooking the ocean! The swimming beach is about a 10-minute walk down the road. It was easy to get around. You don't need a car. Very thoughtful amenities in the room and the bed was super comfortable. I cannot wait to come back. I'll stay there every time I'm in town!

Excellent excellent Lodge! My only criticism is the pool area which is in badly need of repair or remodel. We loved the staff, our room and the vibe! We are coming back next year

The hotel is beautiful. There really is no denying that. The shared spaces all boast incredible views. The overall vibe of the hotel is also incredibly relaxed. The diffusers in the room are such a nice touch and the general atmosphere is incredibly beautiful and relaxing. You can see the ocean from your room and you can hear it all night. Truly wonderful. And the location is perfect. The free trolley and orange inn are right outside. There does seem to be a bit of false advertising. For instance, we booked a room with a balcony and in the description of the room it says that the balcony is private. That was not the case. There was a cluster of 2/3 rooms sharing the same balcony. The website does not disclose this. It seems a bit confusing being that they also have rooms that are described as having a shared balcony but this is not what we booked. We purposely wanted the private balcony as described in the description of the room. For reference, we booked the peaceful ocean from king with balcony and in the description it says that the balcony is private. Next, the mattress and pillows are used as rocks and the AC is FREEEEEEEZING. Even if you turn the temp up - it is freezing. One night we turned it off completely and were sweating in the middle of the night. There is no happy medium. Additionally, the rooms that cluster in the corner of this shared balcony - you can literally hear everything. We had fruit flies also. Another false advertisement was the beach set up. The website very clearly shows pictures of lounge chairs set up on the beach. But this is not the case. The ramp to the beach is incredibly steep. Now obviously, this can’t be helped being that that is just the way the beach is set up. But then the “lounge chairs” are actually just those zero gravity chairs that you have to bring down and set up yourself and then bring back. I was under the impression that there was going to be beach service and there wasn’t an employee in sight. And what we learned when we got there is that St. Ann’s beach which is where the hotel is located is very dangerous to swim at. It is the most dangerous rip current in all of Laguna beach. And no one told us that. So you literally can’t swim there it is really more for locals and surfers. The pool is nice but there are 2 lounge chairs for the entire thing and it is a very small space.
