The Monterey Hotel

The beds were efficient but could be more comfortable.

It is a historic building with lovely architectural features, high coved ceilings, cornices, carved wood hand rails, and leaded glass windows. It is 122 years old so it wasn't designed for modern tastes so be aware of that, floors and stairs creak. I found it was easier to access my room going up the original staircase than to use the elevator in the newer section and then wend my way back to the older section of the hotel. I definitely got my steps in! It's central location made it easy for me to walk everywhere I needed or wanted to go (I was there for a wedding!)

The history of the hotel, the beautiful furnishings, and excellent location. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are clean and comfortable. A small refrigerator would have been nice, but ice was available 24/7 from the front desk. Besides, a refrigerator would be out of place with the decor.

Room was nice enough and had a good view. It was loud.

Excellent location and great staff

We were put into the old section and these rooms are not the best. Had to switch rooms due to an odor. The hallways were filthy the whole time and we were there for 5 nights. No refrigerators or air conditioning. Probably since we booked through Expedia. We had a party member that was in a handicap room and it was much nicer. There is definitely an old charm and the location was wonderful.

Property needs to pay attention to maintain public areas better, needs new carpeting

Bed Grimy carpets and less than sparkling bathroom and disfunctional furniture.

room was ok but water pressure very low in bathroom . extremely noisy from the streets and we were on 4 th floor. also birds noisy starting at 6 am . room ok but too noisy. no parking, no food.

Great location. Comfortable beds and pillows. Friendly staff. Love the old world charm of the building. The street noise. Any room we have stayed has been an issue.

Understand this hotel was built in 1904. It probably could use some updates, but as a overall property, it is fantastic. You are close to absolutely everything in Monterey, including blocks away from the old fisherman’s wharf, plenty of conveniences, bars, restaurants, coffee, shops, close by that you really don’t have to go outside the area. The staff was incredibly helpful and met our every need when we asked. When I go back to Monterey, I will not stay anywhere else.

This old hotel is very charming and in an excellent location. Everything is good, except a mucky smell in the room. Don't know if it's due to the previous guest had a pet or the age of the house. Housekeeping very quickly brought a can of air freshener. That helped a bit.

Staff was very helpful. The carpet is filthy. Bed was clean.
